What is the best antibiotic for acne?

I've been using tetracycline for nearly 6 months and my skin is not too far from being perfect. I started breaking out over a year ago and tried several meds that didn't seem buy prescription drugs without a prescription to work. In fact, my face became steadily irritated. However, my new and most wonderful doctor prescribed the tetracyline antibiotic along with a benzoyl peroxide facewash and retin-a at night - and within 2 months there was a significant difference.
