Has anyone had luck with the prescription acne treatment accutane?

My son's dermatologist is trying a prescription body wash for my son's severe acne, and said if this doesn't work, he will try accutane. I was reading up on the literature he gave us about it and some of the side effects are pretty bad. I'd like to hear from someone who's used it, did it help the acne? What side effects did you have?
