How Do You Properly Use The Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel?

I usually use the Murad Cleanser, and just the Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion. I don't use the exfoliating acne treatment gel that comes in the kit. My mom says that after you put the exfoliating acne treatment gel on, you're suppose to wash it off, but on line pharmacy the instruction says nothing of that. Is that true?
