Roaccutane
Isotretinoin which is the active ingredient in roaccutane normally works by decreasing the size and the activities of the sebaceous glands. This results in the reduction of the production of sebum. The accumulation of oils is stopped and this helps to heal the disease. It also helps to reduce skin inflammation.
Isotretinoin is normally reserved for severe acne. It is used to treat nodular acne or in cases where there is a risk of permanent scarring. It is also used in cases where other standard treatments such as oral antibiotics and topical medicines have been ineffective against the disease.
This drug has serious side effects and must therefore be used under the supervision of a dermatologist. Roaccutane should not be taken during pregnancy because it can cause birth defects such as malformations of a developing fetus. It is also likely to make your skin and lips very dry and therefore, it is recommended that you use a moisturizer or lip balm at the start of treatment.
